In Remembrance

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AND FOR YOUR SACRIFICE.
WE WILL NOT FORGET YOU.
HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!
.

I hope you all have a great time today, stay safe, enjoy this day off with your families or your solitude, just please do remember to take a few moments to pray for those brave men and women who served and made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure that you will have the freedom to enjoy this and all your days. Thank your local service members by supporting them at parades, call the vets in your family....just make the day count!

Kit, have you seen the programme on EWTN about 'The Grunt Padre'? I found out about him last year, but they've just made this new, wonderful, tear-jerking programme. Watch it if you get a chance.

Jackie - oh yeah! I read Fr. Capodanno's biography about 5 years ago. My husband's brother was stationed at the same base as the chaplain who wrote it, and he sent everyone a signed copy. It's an incredible story. He's another one whose eyes, even in old photos, tell so much about his soul.

I think if he hadn't been a priest, he could easily have been a film star! A bit of a Tyrone Power type! I prayed to him for a while for the FOTL, because he knew how to handle men. I think I might get back on to him.

Recently, the last of the "real" or first flag raisers on Iwo Jima passed away. There were two flag raisings (the famous photos were from the second raising) and the story aired awhile back on CBS. Chuck Lindberg, the last of the first flag raisers, lived here in the Twin Cities. You can read a little about it here:

or do a google search.
