So...

UPDATE - Based on the poll results as well as my own laziness (slept in after a long night with the baby), I did not go to Pittsford...we went to an arts festival in Corning instead, followed by a long afternoon drive past Mt. Saviour Monastery and on through the hills of southern Steuben/Chemung counties. Got to eat some seriously yummy Indian food (makani chicken and nan....yummy!) at the arts festival. A good day.

Should I go to Pittsford and listen to Charles Curran or not?

(Vote in poll - see sidebar!)

How 'bout a squirt gun full of holy water?

be sure to have back up holy water for the gun, lol. you might need a priest and the 62 Riuale Romanum for exorcisms, lol.

Howdy from Corning. I'm of the opinion don't go...because even if you went with the intent to ask tough questions, he wouldn't answer them anyway, and, judging from all of his actions and words, you aren't going to change his mind. If you go you'll just be counted in the number of "support" to justify his coming.

Far as Bishop Clark...I can only judge him by his actions, what in his heart is for God to judge. He has been a failure as a bishop, numbers don't lie, and, he encourages and even cheer leads for what I see as heterodoxy and dissent. He is a weak shepherd who can not be replaced soon enough by the Pope.

He confirmed my daughter, and that was only because I convinced my daughter, who didn't want to get confirmed by him, that while he might not be the best example of a bishop, he is still a properly consecrated one, and therefore the sacrament was still valid, and that she was ready. This despite the BS catechism and feel good spirituality surrounding her confirmation.

I've met the bishop twice, once in passing in the cathedral (he was dressed in denim overalls and a flannel shirt! My wife and I thought he was the janitor until we recognized him) and later on the day of my daughter's confirmation. He comes across as not a shepherd, but rather, he seems more like the leader of a self help group!

Sorry to ramble...if you're looking to go to mass on Saturday, come to the 5pm mass at St Mary's Church in Corning. We've started a Schola and the three of us started singing at mass at the beginning of summer. It isn't much, but its a brick in the change that could happen

Yours in Christ,

--CPT Tom

I'm voting no - take the money you'd have spent on the gas and contribute it to a worthy organization within the DOR (if there are any left! ;-) ) and see God's blessings multiply.

It'll save you a heck of a lot of frustration, along with the embarassment of being by far the youngest person in attendance!

I'm going to vote no.

This guy thrives off controversy. If you show up, you're highly unlikely to change his mind, and if you speak up to ask him a question, he's going to contort it so YOU end up looking bad and so the Church looks bad. People who are going there to see him are looking for something, and it's unlikely that you'll be able to break through his aura of mystique in order to give them a slice of orthodox Catholicism.

Don't feed the trolls online, and pray quietly at home for this priest and those he leads.

Only go if you have some poster paint handy for a picket sign.

I voted Hell No. You don't need his passe crap in your brain and don't need to encourage those who invited him by adding to the numbers. (Also, I met him at a conference at Notre Dame in '88. You won't be missing much.)

Well, Father, when you put it like that...

I honestly would not go to heckle (ok, well, maybe I would if things got REALLY bad), but more for purposes of evidence gathering and reportage so I could tell you all first hand what a whack-job he is. Still mulling, but the vox populi seems to be telling me at least "Heck no!" Maybe I'll take Larry's advice and send the gas $ to the Little Sisters of the Poor - a beautiful order and mission that is ALWAYS worthy of support.

Spend the time you'd use driving to pray for Fr. Curran and I think you're golden. :-)

I would say don't go its not worth the time, gas and frustration.
This guy is a dinosaur who likes to make noise, who under the age of 60 is going to show up?
Also I see Tom found your blog.

Well, I had thought yes so you could question and report, possibly picket.

But the other posters here are swaying my opinion in the opposite direction.

What a vapid letter that was from the pastor there!

Kit - I'm honored you're considering my advice (it's so often done!) BTW, there's a small nondescript order here in Michigan that could use the funds, too. Called the Discalced Destroyers of Dissent - they're low on funds and are in danger of having to discontinue their weekly evangelization missions on local golf courses. You won't get a tax deduction, but you'd have a nice feeling that you're helping a passionate brother in Christ lower his handicap....er, I mean, spread the Gospel. yeah, that's it.

Larry - only if I get to drive the cart, [wo]man the cooler, and keep score. All in the spirit of volunteerism, of course.

Larry Denninger said...

arrgh - meant to say "I'm honored you're considering my advice (it's so often NOT done!).

As to the cart driving et al....works for me! All for the glory of God ;-)
