Out and about

8-4-08 update: Extra day of partying on Seneca Lake....so we are off to the homeland (sweet home Chicago) tomorrow morning. We decided to stay home tonight and make sure the recyling goes out tomorrow, given the amount of longnecks that've sacrificed their lives in the name of family communing over the past 4 days. We have probably fed a family of 4 for a week with our empties!

;-)

Well, Friday is here, as is August (<--that was fast!), and I'm wide awake at 2 a.m. formulating lists and itineraries for the next 10 days. After work tomorrow, I have all the pre-wedding stuff to do - family dinner, hair and nails, then Saturday is the wedding of the Beloved's cousin - two big HUGE Catholic families, 350 guests (note: only immediate family and 1st cousins are allowed, or they were well over 500!), and a very small handful of teetotallers among them. So needless to say, Seneca Lake is crawling with extended family, some of whom are already in "pre-flight" mode. Say your prayers and clear the roads.

If we can lift our heads on Sunday, we will go to an afterparty on the lake, then Monday we are off on the 10 hour drive to IL for as long as my mother and I can tolerate each other. So I'm guessing 3-4 days, tops - maybe an extra if we manage to make it to a Cubs game.

Posting will be light, but I'll be checking in with some regularity...as an evasive self-defense move if for no other reason.

Wish me luck, and have a great weekend!

Have fun this weekend, Kit, and have a safe (and sane!) drive. As you motor along the Ohio Turnpike and pass Toledo, look to your right and give a wave! Sure, I'm 100 miles north of there in Michigan, but I'll know!

God keep you and your family safe.

Kit,

Listen to me, girlie, THE DIET IS DEAD, DEAD, DEAD until this weekend passes and you come home from Illinois, got that?

In fact, I recommend you immediately pour yourself a glass of wine (if before noon, a mimosa is acceptable) and make yourself some pig candy. It's a real, honest-ta-Pete recipe from the book, "The Sweet Potato Queens' Big-Ass Cookbook and Financial Planner:

Take several strips of bacon. Roll 'em in brown sugar. Make sure they're coated. Bake at 350 degrees until crunchy, about 20 minutes. Share only with people you like.

Hang in there! Btw, did you say the relatives were in "flight mode" or "FIGHT mode?"

Could go either way!

Good luck Kit. Have a great time!

Thanks all!

Digi - my mom used to make broiled bacon wrapped around a date and rolled in brown sugar for bridge parties....

Mmmmmm....piggy....smooshy.....sugary.....

Tomorrow I have ZERO restrictions - it's just an endurance thing at this point. I am halfway to where I want to be, but I PROMISE I will cheat, just sparingly.

Oh my gosh - I must make those date bacon thingies!!! Yes, yes, yes.

My recommendation?? Martinis - lots and lots of martinis. Drink your allotment and I'm giving you my allotment. Aren't you glad I don't drink???

Adrienne, you are such a dear, generous friend...

(I forgot to mention, spear the bacon date thingies with toothpicks to hold the bacon in place)

Especially "dirty" vodka martinis - add a little of the olive brine to cloud the vodka.

I usually have those about the same time of the month when the Digihusband installs the salt lick out back, if he knows what's good for him . . .

Kit, you are a brave, brave woman. I could not handle a family wedding AND a visit to my mother in the same ten-day span. (At least, not without a lot of liquor...)

I'll skip my drinks here - have my share too. ;-)

Checking in...

I gotta say, it was the FUNNEST WEDDING EVER! Then there was the afterparty, and us chauffering 2 of the Beloved's "Drunkles" who asked to be left at the side of the road with lawn chairs to sleep it off for the evening, we refused, but they found two younger nephews who agreed and stole them from us...they did not resurface until dinnertime this evening.

Holy smokes - I have not laughed so hard at so much for so long in ages.

We're going back to the lake for the day tomorrow, and then to IL on Tues.
