Sadness has descended upon the Brookdwellers...

...our "otherwise feral cockatiel," Andy - named for his ability to sing the song (and only that song) when we rescued him from the bird pound in San Diego 5 years ago - has taken wing to the Mayberry of Eternity. The Beloved found him in his little house, resting gently. We buried him out back with a millet spray in a nice shoebox, just out of reach of my wonderful cat, Payton (Chicago girl that I am) who died on my 37th birthday.

Then we went inside and had chicken for dinner.

(Hey - had I known in time, we'd've ordered pizza!)

RIP, Andy. You were a funny, friendly, and all-around excellent bird.

I'm so sorry. A cockatiel was the only bird I ever liked (apart from to eat, of course). And they do love them some millet spray...

RIP, Andy. May there be many millet sprays for you in the Great Hereafter, and may you ever be just out of Payton's reach.

Aw, Kit, I'm so sorry.

I buried my budgie, Petey, in an empty Entemann's box . . . the cellophane window allowed for excellent viewing at the wake that we held for the neighborhood kids.

Thanks all - he was a quirky little guy, and seemed to like me best, although his favorite spot was in the thick carpet-like "nest" on top of the Beloved's head (at just a little over 6' it was a good vantage point - and quite frustrating for Jack the Cat)

Digi: As always, your taste is exquisite. Naturally, one would use the Entenmann's box after consoling oneself with some tasty brownies, chocolate chip cookies, and/or cinnamon rolls.

DAMN this diet!

So sorry for your loss. I'll remember Andy in my prayers.

I had a two parakeets once. They got sick, bit me, and I ended up with some horrible bird fever......

They didn't get an Entemmans box when they "flew the earthly coop"......... Neither did the creep of a boyfriend who gave them to me.

So Sorry. Pets become such important parts of our families.

When I was younger growing up in Geneva and our parakeet died, we staged a Viking funeral on Seneca Lake!

Now, we have a "pet cemetery" in the back yard, nicely decorated with flowers planted by my good-looking-one.
